More seats to Heraklion airport Crete

The Swiss airline Edelweiss is set to increase its one-way seat capacity in Heraklion, Crete, by 4% in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. Heraklion’s “Nikos Kazantzakis” Airport ranks among the airline’s top seven destinations in terms of seat availability during this timeframe.

A subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group and a sister company of SWISS, Edelweiss will offer a total of 26,000 seats at Heraklion Airport during the first half of 2025. According to data from aviation analytics firm Cirium, the airline, which operates all its flights from Zurich, will allocate most of its capacity to Spain, Egypt, Greece, Kosovo, and Italy. Spain (11 airports) and Greece (10 airports) will see the highest number of destinations served.

As part of its expanded flight schedule for Spring 2025, Edelweiss will introduce direct flights to several short-haul destinations starting in April, replacing previous three-way connections. Among the new direct routes are Kos and Rhodes.

For the first half of 2025, the airline’s schedule will include 92 destinations from Zurich, many of which will continue into the peak summer season at the end of June. Pristina remains Edelweiss’ top market, with two daily flights operating year-round.

Overall, the airline’s seat capacity for destinations across Europe and South Africa will reach 664,000 in the first half of 2025, up from 590,000 during the same period in 2024. Additionally, Edelweiss has introduced or plans to introduce nine new routes, including Cairo, Kittilä, Rovaniemi, Salalah, Tbilisi, Bristol, Seattle, Terceira, and Zadar.
